Gov. Baker Gives Go-ahead to Land Deal for Worcester Biomanufacturing Park

BOSTON – Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday signed legislation that clears the way for unused state land in Worcester to be developed for biomanufacturing. The measure allows the city to buy 44 acres at the former Worcester State Hospital. The Worcester Business Development Corp. will market the parcel as an industrial park, with a focus on biomanufacturing. LakePharma, a California company with operations in Worcester, has been in talks to locate at the site. “When we first developed the Open for Business initiative, projects that could transform unused state property into revitalized centers for business and economic activity is exactly what we had in mind,” Gov. Baker said in a statement. A signing ceremony was held at the Statehouse, with Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito and Worcester city officials on hand.
